1OrgChart FAQ
I’ve updated my user profile but the charts in 1OrgChart aren’t updated.
1OrgChart builds up the charts using SharePoint search. All the information required needs to be included in the search indexes. To ensure that 1OrgChart is updated after a change to the user profiles, a search crawl needs to be run.
It is advised to run search crawls on a regular basis. To ensure that these crawls don't affect the system, many organisations run search crawls overnight. To ensure that 1OrgChart is as up-to-date as possible there should be a Content Source configured for the user profiles only. This 'People' Content Source can then be crawled more frequently than other content of the site
I have a Document Library where I store people’s photos. How do I make these pictures display in 1OrgChart?
When creating a view using the Profile Data Source (MOSS only), the images in 1OrgChart are pulled from the Picture property located in your Shared Service Provider (SSP). This can be populated in the SSP or by users editing their My Site profile. This is the same source for the people search feature in MOSS, so if search results display people’s pictures, then 1OrgChart will display them as well.
To point a user profile to the picture in your Document Library, follow these steps in your Shared Service Provider:
1. Click User profiles and properties 2. Click View user profiles 3. Edit the user profile for the person that requires an image 4. In the Picture property, paste the URL for the image location (ensure that the URL ends in .jpg or another image format)When creating a view using a Custom List (MOSS or WSS), the images in 1OrgChart are pulled from the Picture URL column in the 1OrgChartUserInfo list located in the root of your Site Collection. For further information refer to section 3.5 of the Installation and User Manual.
If I upgrade to a newer version of 1OrgChart will I lose my existing chart views?
If you do not deactivate and reactivate the 1OrgChart feature you will keep the views. Additionally, in versions 4.0.1.9 and higher, the option to export and import views is available which will allow a smooth transition between development and production environments.
Can I modify the ‘look and feel’ of 1OrgChart?
1OrgChart picks up the styles from the theme/CSS of the site. Some styles can be overridden such as the toolbar, but it should be noted that this will apply to all other web parts and content. Most styles cannot be changed, including the people cards and lines.
Why are there duplicate profiles within 1OrgChart?
Duplicate profiles can appear if your profile import process hasn’t been configured correctly. You can also view/edit and delete any user profiles by selecting
1. Central Administration2. SharedServices
3. User Profile and Properties
4. View User Profiles
Why do profile images not appear correctly when I select ‘Print’?
For the images to appear correctly, you will need to have full permissions to the following folder:
Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\template\layouts\OrgChart Web Pages
